An Affiliate Strategy, I Didn’t Have Any
Almost all Internet Marketers would have started their online business as an affiliate marketer. I took the affiliate path too. It was the easiest way to start. Just like so many others, I too started without any affiliate strategy.
The reason many newbies jumped into affiliate marketing is because it is relatively easy to make money as an affiliate when you are just starting up. You don’t need a web site. You don’t need a domain. You don’t need a product of your own. You don’t need a payment gateway.
Basically, all you need to start as an affiliate marketer is your affiliate link. Even that is automatically generated for you when you register as an affiliate. Just put up the affiliate link wherever you can – in your signatures (eMail and Forums), in your blog comments, etc. If you’re in luck, someone will click on your link and make a purchase. You, thus, receive your affiliate commission.
The only drawback with affiliate marketing is really caused by it’s ease of becoming one. It’s just so easy to become an affiliate. Just register and confirm your registration. That’s all there is to it for a majority of affiliate programs.
While this makes it easy for all. The result, most newbies (me included) tend to enter the market without any specific affiliate strategy in mind.
Taking my personal experience as an example, because of the ease of registration, I basically joined almost all affiliate programs I came across in my daily surfing. You just name it. I am probably already a member of that new affiliate program you’ve just discovered.
With so many affiliate program memberships, one would certainly expect the profit to match the number of memberships. However, that is simply not the case.
With so many affiliate programs to promote. I failed to focus on any single one at all. The result of not giving any of them a decent amount of focus and promotion, I ended up making only small potatoes from the many affiliates programs I am a member of.
Take my word. If you are just starting up in the Internet Marketing scene. If affiliate marketing is the method of your choice to start with. Then do not join every single affiliate program you encounter. Be highly selective and take heed of the following affiliate marketing strategy.
Since you are just starting, you probably would not know what to look for. Thus, to make things simple, I would recommend that you go with the affiliate program that gives you the most commission.
Why the highest commission? Simply because it will take you the same amount of time and energy to promote a high end product. Thus promoting it will be worth your newbie efforts.
Put all your effort and focus on promoting just that one affiliate program. Track and monitor the performance if you can. Spread that single affiliate link as much as you can. Monitor which areas of promotion gives you the best traffic and sales.
After two weeks, compile your findings and decide if that affiliate program is worth the effort you’ve put in. Decide if you should continue promoting or drop it and join a different affiliate program.
That’s the affiliate strategy which I didn’t have when I started. If you think it’s a sound strategy, follow it. If not, perhaps you can share your affiliate strategy with me and the rest of my readers. If you’re sharing your affiliate strategy in here, I thank you in advance.
Coincidentally, a friend of mine just launched her affiliate program. If you’re looking to make some profit from people who are looking for Islamic Books For Children, then join the UmmikuSayang Affiliate Program. They pay 5% commission on sales from your referrals.
