How My Internet Marketing Online Business Journey Started

It is now about 7 months since I registered my business with SSM. I am now on a journey to become a full time internet marketer. I hope to run my very own online business full time in the near future.

Five years ago, I would never have thought that I would actually run a business of my own. As a matter of fact, the idea of owning a business never even crossed my mind. That is until the middle of last year (2007). It all started when my darling wife became interested in beads craft. We both agreed that she should first attend a beading class and learn the craft.

After the class, she began producing her beads crafts and made quite a number of sales. I then thought of creating an e-commerce website to promote her crafts. Thus, my first venture into online business started. I bought a domain and web hosting. Installed ZenCart and started putting up the products into the website.

We had no marketing knowledge. The only marketing effort we made was only to our close friends and relatives. Most of them were not even internet savvy. Hence, the website was basically a flop. All our sales, even now, comes from word of mouth marketing.

It so happens that I had to move my blog from the server it was running on. I was then introduced to the remarkable robustness of WordPress. The introduction to WordPress gave me an idea about offering a web hosting and design service. I quickly learned everything there is to learn about using WordPress as a Content Management System. I’ve also gotten to learn about Affiliate Marketing with WordPress.

I now have a small number of clients on my hosting and web design projects. Nothing big. They are just small companies and some blogging accounts. All running on WordPress.

We now have a beading crafts and also website design and hosting business running online. Two online business running without any formal marketing effort. Needless to say, they both did not do very well in the online business world.

I learned a huge lesson from the two projects mentioned. An online business is pretty much similar to its offline counterpart. You need to market it in order to get sales. I realized then, I need to learn about marketing an online business. I need to learn Internet Marketing. Thus, begins my journey into Internet Marketing Online Business.
