How To Get More Web Hits While Saving Your Pennies

To many online business owners, getting volumes of web hits on to their web sites is tantamount to the success of their business. Lets face it, no matter how cool, beautiful, interesting, or exciting the business web site is, if no visitors come a knocking, the site will not make any profit. Not even a single penny.

Internet traffic is the life of an online business. No traffic – no sales – no income. As simple as that. Thus, in order for an online business to be successful, it requires constant traffic which it would then convert into buying customers.

How does a web site gather traffic?

Before I go into the details of how to get traffic, I need to first get this out into the clear.

Many new webmasters have got this misguided concept drilled into their brain cells that with the web, “You build it and they will come”. Seriously. I here that a lot when I attend seminars or functions promoting businesses to go online.

Now, all you newbie webmasters, listen closely. Here is the truth about websites. You build it and no one will come. Yes. No one will come because no one knows about your website. No one knows what your website URL is. Even the mighty Google doesn’t know about your website.

So, drill this now into your brain cells. You build it, market it for all you care, and only then will they come to you.

Now, lets get back to the actual topic of this article. How to increase website visitors to your website. If you noticed, I’ve actually drilled the solution to you. You are absolutely right, if you said that the solution is marketing.

If in the real estate business, success depends on location, location and location. In the web business, success depends on marketing, marketing and marketing.

Following are the marketing effort which you need to do for your website. Do them constantly and I assure you that you will soon reap the benefits of getting high volumes of traffic for your online business.

1. Website Marketing With Your Signature.

How many emails do you send out every single day? Most people have their name, position, and contact numbers in their email signature. Why not include your website url in there too.

Here’s a thought. Don’t just put in the url in there. Use the signature space as an ad for your website. Offer a gift as download or anything that would entice the reader of your email to visit your website.

This signature marketing strategy is even more effective if you use it in the forums that you frequent. Most forums allow you to add signatures to your posts in the forum discussions. The best thing with forum signatures, you can also hyperlink your website url to the keyword of your choice. This works out really good for your website in terms of getting search engine rankings for your targeted keywords.

2. Website Marketing With Blog Comments

No matter what niche your business is in, there are bound to be large numbers of people blogging in the same niche. I’d be a little worried if there are no blogs in my business niche. Go out there and search for blogs in your niche.

There are probably thousands if not millions of blogs in your niche. Select any of them in the top two pages of the search results. This should ensure that they are popular and highly ranked by the search engines. You don’t want to waste too much time on blogs that are too lowly ranked. Of course there might be a couple of exceptions to this rule.

Read the blogs you’ve selected. Subscribe to their feeds. Comment on the posts which strike your interest. Don’t just give a simple “Hi there” type of comments. Comment intelligently. Add your own thoughts to the posts. Be nice.

Of course, don’t forget to include the URL of your website in your comments. There should be a website url field somewhere in the comment form. If it’s not there, then use the signature method.

If you do use the signature method, be subtle. You don’t want the blog owner to label you and your comments as spam.

3. Website Marketing With Links

All websites contain links to other websites. Well, maybe not all. I know a few websites that doesn’t link to any other websites. They are better known as landing pages or minisites. I’ll write about them in another article. Apart from these minisites, all websites will surely have an area where links to other relevant websites are displayed.

In a blog, it might be called a blog-roll. Business websites will have a slot or page to list down their partners and or affiliates. A personal site will have links to other family member sites or friends.

Basically, it’s natural for a website to link to one another. So, all you got to do is, first, find websites which are relevant to your business niche. Contact the webmaster or owner of the said site and request for a link exchange. If they agree, then both sites will put up a link to each other.

It’s a win win for both sites actually. You will gain some traffic from visitors to the other site. They will also gain traffic from visitors on your site.

There you go. Three website marketing strategies that will not cost you a single penny. Although these will not cost you a single cent, they do, however, require effort on your side. As they say, nothing is free in this world. Cash may not be the payment term, as in the above mentioned strategies.
